Almost no Olympic anniversary events... on stolen native land

If you're looking for hoopla to mark the second anniversary of the Feb. 12, 2010 opening of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, you'll be disappointed.

There are no provincially funded events for the second anniversary, according to Richelle Funk of the Community, Sport and Cultural Development ministry. The Olympic cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza will not be reactivated, according to the Vancouver Convention Centre's Jinny Wu.

Ex-Premier Gordon Campbell, now Canada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, is speaking at the Vancouver Board of Trade lunch in the Vancouver Convention Centre on Feb. 10.

The B.C. Sports Hall of Fame at B.C. Place Stadium, the 2010 Games ceremonies venue, is hosting its Red Mitten Weekend on Feb. 11 and 12 with half-price admission and VANOC CEO John Furlong autographing his "Patriot Hearts" memoir from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Richmond Olympic Oval, Hillcrest Community Centre, Whistler Olympic Park and Whistler Sliding Centre are open to the public.

Is the lack of celebration a sign of Olympic fatigue in post-Stanley Cup riot Vancouver?
